Todays the day we leave Rome. We started the day by heading to Maccas to get a quick pastry because we were up and out before anything else was open. We then headed to the metro terminal only for it to be closed, we did a bit of research and found out that the metro was on strike so we’d have to find another way to get to our next destination to get on the booked train to Florence. Thank God for Uber because we booked a van for 6 (lots of bags) that had amazing aircon to get us to aroma Termini.

After managing to navigate and find our train, we hopped on and headed to Florence. We had some lovely scenery on the way and got lots of photos. After getting off the Train in Florence we walked to find where we had booked in our bags for storage while we wondered the city.

Liz really wanted to check out the Leather Markets so that were we headed first. The amount of stalls set up all over the side of the street is insane, We eventually made it to the markets and wondered through the shaded areas. Each stall had a corresponding store behind it, Liz found a bag she really liked and the owner took her into the store to show her more options, it was nice and air conditioned in there. We wondered a little longer before deciding we should get something to eat before our tour.

We stopped by a 1950 style American Diner (Not very Italian, I know) but never the less we got some lunch and it was delicious. We chilled for a bit longer then walked to our meeting place for the tour.

We started the tour of going to view Michelangelo’s David and learning the history behind David and Michelangelo’s Artistic background. Our guides name was Daniela and she was extremely informative and answered many questions. We next headed to the Duomo of Firenze called “Basilica Cattedrale Metropolitana di Santa Maria del Fiore” which is the central Cathedral of Florence and had a look inside. From there our guide took us on a walking tour ending on the Ponte Vecchio.

After the tour was over we sat and got some gelato before walking back to Statione Firenze Santa Maria Novella. We walked over to Maccas to get some food (eh 2nd time today, I know) as we would be on a train for the next 1hr & half. Once we were finished be headed back to grab our bags then onwards to the platform.

Once we arrived in Lucca, we realised that we would have to make our way over the wall (as the city centre was a walled and that’s where we were staying). We I tell you we nearly died, I’m not exaggerating, it was hell with stairs and rubbled declines; Especially with Suitcases!!!

But, we made it and promptly opened the house, turned all the aircons on, make our way through showers and go to sleep.
